
SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 23
(By Senators Craigo and Dittmar)
Congratulating John Wesley Coiner on achieving national recognition
for volunteer service by receiving a Spirit of Community award
for 2000.

Whereas, John Wesley Coiner, a student at Winfield Middle
School, Winfield, Putnam County, has achieved national recognition
for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2000 Prudential
Spirit of Community award; and

Whereas, This prestigious award honors young volunteers across
America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to
serving their communities; and

Whereas, John Wesley Coiner earned this award by giving
generously of his time and energy to the "Kids in Bits Therapeutic
Horseback Riding Program" for children with disabilities. This
worthwhile program allows disabled children to learn about horses
and their care. He has given up school sports in order to devote
twelve hours a week to this program; and

Whereas, John Wesley Coiner is also involved in his local 4-H
Club and helped to raise nearly $5,000 to purchase equipment; and

Whereas, The success of the State of West Virginia, the
strength of our communities and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young
people like John Wesley Coiner who use their considerable talents
and resources to serve others; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby congratulates John Wesley Coiner on his
receipt of a Prudential Spirit of Community award and hereby
recognizes his outstanding record of volunteer service and
community spirit; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to John Wesley Coiner.
